CHAIR 003
In my investigation about the relationship between feeling and hearing, this installation is meant to change the perception of hearing and feeling by using movement, sound and vibrations.
While sitting in it, the chair can move from a sitting position to a laying position and turn around its axel in both directions.
From underneath the chair there are two arms coming out with speakers attached to them.
These arms can move around the chair and move separate from the chair. The sound coming from the speakers creates confusion about wether the chair is moving or just the speakers, or both.
The speakers can also move in opposite direction of the direction the chair is turning, making the confusion even bigger.
The movement of the installation is done by electromotors which are controlled and regulated by sound which is also coming from the speakers in the installation.
The installation was part of my exam-project for sound and image and art-science at the Royal Academy and conservatory of The Hague in 2005.
During the exam-exposition the installation broke while running with quite a heavy person on it and due to the costs of building a new version this hasn't happened yet... ( the person on the chair at that time got out without serious damage..) |
